Your 13-day Moroccan adventure begins in Tangier. Upon your arrival at the airport, your journey unfolds. Tangier, known as the gateway to Africa, offers a unique blend of Mediterranean and Atlantic influences. You’ll be transferred to your hotel for check-in, and the rest of the day is yours to explore at your leisure. Whether you choose to wander through the bustling medina, relax on the beaches, or savor some delicious Moroccan cuisine, Tangier has something for everyone.
Your day in Tangier starts with a visit to Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea merge. This picturesque point offers panoramic views and is often said to be the edge of Africa. Nearby, you’ll explore the fascinating Hercules Cave, associated with the legendary Greek hero. The cave’s unique openings create a map of Africa when viewed from the sea. After this exploration, you’ll return to Tangier for an afternoon of leisure.
On day three, your journey takes you to the captivating city of Chefchaouen, also known as the Blue City. This enchanting place is nestled in the Rif Mountains, and its buildings are painted in various shades of blue. Upon arrival, you’ll check in to your hotel and then have free time to explore the city’s charming streets, visit local markets, or simply unwind and soak in the serene atmosphere.
Your second day in Chefchaouen provides an opportunity to delve deeper into this mesmerizing city. Wander through the enchanting blue alleyways, visit historic sites like the Kasbah Museum, and appreciate the unique architecture and culture that define Chefchaouen. You’ll also have the chance to hike to the Spanish Mosque for a panoramic view of the city set against the stunning Rif Mountains.
Leaving Chefchaouen behind, your journey continues to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site. These well-preserved ruins showcase remarkable mosaics, archways, and historical remnants that provide a window into Morocco’s past. Afterward, you’ll visit Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, where you’ll explore Bab Al-Mansour, Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal stables, the granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Your day concludes in Fes, where you’ll stay in a traditional riad.
Fes, often considered Morocco’s cultural and religious center, awaits your exploration. You’ll embark on a guided tour of the city’s highlights, beginning with the Royal Palace gate. Your journey continues into the well-preserved medieval Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Wander through the labyrinth of alleyways and visit iconic sites such as the Blue Gate (Bab Boujloud), Medrasa Bouanania, Najjarine fountain, and the Tanneries.
Our 13-day Morocco tour also includes a visit to the Quaraouin mosque and university, considered the world’s oldest university. You’ll venture outside the Medina to explore the Jewish quarter known as “the Mellah.” In the afternoon, you’ll visit an ancient fortress to take in panoramic views of Fes before returning to your riad for a well-deserved rest.
Today, your journey leads southward as you depart Fes and travel through the scenic landscapes of Morocco. Along the way, you’ll visit Ifrane, often referred to as the Switzerland of Morocco, known for its alpine-style architecture and cool climate. You’ll also have the chance to explore the cedar forests, home to the Barbary macaque monkeys.
After lunch in Midelt, you’ll traverse the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass, offering breathtaking vistas, and follow the Ziz valley with its dramatic panoramas. Your day culminates in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Here, you’ll transfer to camels for an unforgettable trek across the sandy dunes. As the sun sets, you’ll reach your desert camp, a harmonious blend of traditional nomadic tents and modern comfort. Enjoy Berber drums, dance by the campfire, and gaze at the star-studded desert sky as you unwind for the night.
A remarkable sunrise over the Sahara Desert awaits those who rise early. After breakfast, your day is dedicated to exploring the unique surroundings of Merzouga. Your journey begins with an off-road drive to an ancient eyeliner mine, revealing a lesser-known facet of desert life. You’ll then visit nomadic families in their handwoven tents, providing insight into their way of life as you share a cup of Berber tea.
Our next destination is Khamlia, a village renowned for its Gnaoua music, rooted in sub-Saharan African traditions. After a restaurant lunch, you’ll stroll through a palm grove and journey to Merzouga Lake, often frequented by flamingos. Finally, your day concludes back in Merzouga, where you’ll stay in a comfortable hotel.
Bid farewell to the Sahara as you leave Merzouga behind. Your next destination is Rissani, once the capital of Tafilalet. Rissani remains a major trading center with a bustling souk, particularly lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Explore the vibrant market atmosphere before heading to Erfoud, where you’ll visit a workshop specializing in fossilized marble.
Your 12-day morocco tour continues through a journey in the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad en route to the Todra Gorges. These grand canyons, carved by the Todra River, provide a stunning backdrop for your exploration. With its towering red cliffs, this location is a rock climber’s paradise. Spend time wandering through the gorge, taking in the awe-inspiring scenery. Afterward, you’ll journey to the Dades Valley, with its famous “monkey fingers” rock formation. Your day ends with dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel.
After breakfast, we’ll journey to Kalaa Magouna to visit the Rose Valley, known for its annual Rose Festival in May. Local artisans offer rose-based products like perfumes, rose water, oil, and cosmetics. We then drive through the palm groves of Skoura and visit the Kasbah of Amredhyle. Finally, we reach Ouarzazate, where you can explore studios that have hosted famous movie productions and the Taourirt Kasbah.
Next, we visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and featured in many movies and TV series. Afterward, we visit the Telouet Kasbah and continue our journey to Marrakech, passing through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass and the High Atlas Mountains. Stops will be made for lunch and scenic photos.
Finally, you’ll be dropped off at your accommodation in a Marrakech Riad,
Marrakech, often referred to as the Red City, welcomes you for a day of exploration. Begin your guided tour with a visit to the Bahia Palace, a stunning example of Moroccan architecture. Explore the Saadian Tombs, the Ben Youssef Quranic mosque, and the bustling souks.
Enjoy free time for lunch in the vicinity of Jemaa El-Fna square, the heart of Marrakech. Later, visit the Koutoubia Mosque, the city’s largest, and explore the enchanting Majorelle Garden. After a day filled with discoveries, you’ll return to your riad.
Today’s journey takes you westward to Essaouira, a charming coastal city. Along the way, you’ll stop to see the famous Argan tree-climbing goats and capture panoramic views of the Moroccan coastline. Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador, is a captivating place with a picturesque fishing port, ancient ramparts adorned with cannons, and a vibrant medina. Explore the city’s unique character, and savor its fresh seafood.
Your adventure continues to Casablanca, Morocco’s economic hub, where you’ll visit the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world. Afterward, you’ll journey to Rabat, Morocco’s capital, for an overnight stay.
Your Moroccan journey concludes with a visit to Rabat, one of the country’s imperial cities and its present capital. Explore the city’s highlights, including the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of Oudaya.
Enjoy free time for lunch before heading north, passing through Assilah, to reach Tangier, where we will conclude our 13-day Morocco journey.
